Fans of the Boston Celtics are already missing star forward Jaylen Brown, from TD Garden all the way to the office of the Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Speaking in a recent interview with the hosts of the "Unanchored Boston" podcast, the governor of the Celtics' home state, Maura Healey, weighed in on the loss of Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers. "I'm really disappointed," said Healey. "Really, it was like a gut punch."
"JB's been so much a part of the Celtics tradition," continued the Massachusetts Governor. "He had a great run here in Boston. I think. Look at what he did with Banner 18 and bringing that home and the (2024) Finals MVP ... I was really bummed about that, didn't understand all of it, but it's professional sports."
"I also think though that people should know that Jaylen Brown is somebody who made tremendous contributions off the court," added Healey. "What he did with the Juice Foundation, helping kids, (was) awesome."
"What he did with the Bridge Program over at MIT in the Media Lab, teaching young people, giving them access to not just STEM learning, but actual jobs and experiences, being mentored by MIT students bridging worlds that were too far apart," said Healey.
"It's just that he's a very thoughtful person, and the way he built that program is just tremendous. So I'll miss him for his impact on the court, for sure. It's hard to see how things are going to go. I'll also really miss his impact in the community."
