When it comes to the defense of the Boston Celtics this season, fourth-year forward Jordan Walsh is the head of the snake. As the starting primary point of attack defender for the Celtics for the first time in his career, the Arkansas alum has had a unique perspective on how Boston has executed its defensive philosophy on the court -- and how he fits into it as a starter.
"I think the key is just everybody's buy-in to (playing defense)," said Walsh after practice on Thursday (Oct. 29) viaCLNS Media. "I feel like a lot of my job is to take that stress off of them in that aspect. If I get through a screen, there's no coverage, there's no help side, there's no squeeze."
"It's just me playing one-on-one against their best player," said Walsh. "And
then they're in shifts. They don't have to move, they can relax."
"I'm taking it upon myself to release that stress from them, from everybody, of course, and do my job as best as possible," said the Dallas native. "So there's no need for rotations."
"There's no need for switching. There's no need for coverage solutions. It's just Jordan, guard the best player, one-on-one, do a ball screen. We get a stop, we go the other way."
