The Boston Celtics are currently in Charleston for the final leg of their training camp for the 26-27 NBA season, hosted by the Citadel Military College of South Carolina. Not exactly a typical location for Boston to host their training camp, there was of course curiosity from the media in attendance as to the reason Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla elected to bring the team so far afield for training camp.
"A little bit of it was other teams that have been here before, so they have a good environment set up to help have great hospitality for their other teams that have been here, so there's some framework there," explainedMazzulla via CLNS Media. "Relatively close, not too far away, and we've heard great things about it, so (we're) excited to be here."
"(We're) really grateful for the hotel having us and for the Citadel making the (facilities) available to us," added the Celtics coach, who noted that some of the players on the team were also excited to play some golf while in town.
As to whether anything changes simply by moving camp to a new location, Mazzulla downplayed that dynamic. "No, it's a continuation of where we left off," he explained, "changing the environment."
"But no, (we're) just continuing where we left off on the things that we're doing well, the things that we have to get better at – and just spending the time together."
