The Boston Celtics reportedly have committed to making one of the best children's hospitals in the country even better. In association with the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation, the Celtics and their ownership group announced a record-breaking donation of more than $200 million to Boston Children's Hospital, according to a press release sent out on Thursday morning. The historic gift is centered around supporting multiple transformational priorities in pediatric care and research.
More specifically, the money will help build the nation's premier pediatric mental health facility, fund advanced training for pediatric nurses, fuel research into emerging therapies for childhood diseases, expand family-centered programs, and much more.
“While the
size of this gift is unprecedented for Boston Children’s Hospital, its significance will ultimately be measured not by the record it sets, but by the lives it will save,” CEO of Boston Children’s Hospital Dr. Kevin Churchwell said.
The C's will also highlight Boston Children's Hospital on Friday night when they host the Chicago Bulls at TD Garden. There'll be in-game moments throughout the contest to celebrate current and former patients, families, staff, and others with ties to the hospital.
"The Celtics have historically been defined by the concept that true legacy is more than what happens on the court," Celtics Chairman and Governor Bill Chisholm said. "Boston Children’s and the Celtics share a belief that it takes every single one of us to achieve our most ambitious goals. This gift is our commitment to the next generation in Boston and far beyond. We all win when we invest in our children’s futures."
