Devin Carter is fighting for a contract with the Boston Celtics. The former lottery pick is navigating free agency after the Atlanta Hawks waived him shortly after the Sacramento Kings traded him. Carter, 24, is currently on an Exhibit 10 contract with the Celtics and is likely competing for a two-way contract, at least until it becomes financially feasible to convert him to a full-scale NBA deal.
On Thursday, October 8, Carter got his first opportunity to stake a claim for Boston's final two-way spot. Coming off the bench against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Carter dropped 17 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out three assists, and secured two steals. His all-action performance quickly earned him some admirers within the Celtics fanbase.
However,
there were some signs that Carter is still a work in progress. He turned the ball over five times in 24 minutes of play. Furthermore, Carter showed moments of tunnel vision, with 12 of his 17 points coming unassisted, the most of any player in the Celtics rotation that night.
Following Carter's strong debut showing for Boston, Masslive's Brian Robb and Souichi Terada discussed what they saw from the 6-foot-2 point guard, and how he can continue to prove himself to the coaching staff throughout the rest of training camp and preseason.
