Brad Stevens has spent this summer continuing to retool the Boston Celtics roster on the fly. Over the past year, multiple veterans have been ushered out of the franchise, with the front office seeking to reset the repeater tax. Of course, Jaylen Brown is the highest-profile casualty of those cap-driven moves, having been traded to the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this summer.
Now, with a new-look supporting cast, Jayson Tatum will be tasked with leading the Celtics' forward corps, as Stevens continues to construct Boston's next championship-level team. Unfortunately for Tatum, that means he's going to face the largest amount of pressure in his career thus far, all while continuing to recover from a torn Achilles.
Yet, if Tatum can remain healthy
and continue producing at the level we saw from him to close out the 2025-26 campaign, then he should be more than capable of rising to the task. In fact, given the new-look rotation and how the offense will revolve around him, there's a chance Tatum could emerge as a candidate in the MVP discussion.
Noa Dalzell recently discussed Tatum's chances of contending for the coveted individual award during a recent episode of the "You've Got Boston" podcast. During the episode, Dalzell broke down what Tatum would need to do to be part of the MVP conversation before sharing her opinion on whether Tatum can reach the heights needed to be crowned as the league's most valuable player.
