To say that Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations President of Basketball Operations has been under more scrutiny than he has been used to since taking that job over for Danny Ainge since trading star forward Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers is something of an understatement. But it was also clear that the Celtics president is very aware of that fact in a recent interview on Frank Isola and Brian Scalabrine's "The Starting Lineup" show on SiriusXM NBA Radio.
"This is the part where I'm glad I'm 50 and not 30," said Stevens when asked about whether he considers the perception of his moves as an executive (h/t the Boston Globe's Chad Finn). "I've been, fortunately or unfortunately, under the public eye for a long time and you're
used to the reaction, good or bad. And at the end of the day, you have to do what you think is the best thing for the organization."
"And it's not always going to be the popular thing," added the Indiana native. "And it may be right, it may be wrong, who knows, right?"
"But I think that ultimately, we were really lucky," stressed Stevens. "We had Jaylen Brown here for 10 years. And 10 years is a long run in the NBA."
"And 10 years with that kind of success, and the experience that he brought to the table, and all of his teammates around him brought to the table, and what they were able to do collectively, was a heck of a run. And we're just trying to sustain this now, so that we can be sustainably in the mix moving forward."
