Saturday, Oct. 31, marked an important day for Boston Celtics wings Baylor Scheierman and Hugo González. It was the deadline for the Green Team to make a decision on the club options for the aforementioned C's. There was no spooky contract drama on Halloween night, though, as the Celtics picked up both 2027-28 rookie scale options on Friday afternoon, per Keith Smith of Spotrac.
These two moves will fully guarantee Scheierman and González's money for next season and, barring a trade or another unforeseen maneuver, keep them in the green and white until 2028 at the very least. Following the 2027-28 campaign, González will encounter a club option once again while Scheierman will become a restricted free agent — unless he's extended next summer.
Boston's backup wings have put together a relatively slow start to the season. González logged 0 points in his first two outings before scorching the Chicago Bulls on Monday night with 13 points on almost 67 percent shooting during a 134-99 victory. Scheierman has been even quieter. He's yet to score in double figures but has averaged a little over 17 minutes per game thus far.
Through four contests, the Celtics hold a 3-1 record and hover around the top of the Eastern Conference standings. They could tie the 4-1 Detroit Pistons and 4-1 Philadelphia 76ers with a win on Friday night versus the Bulls at TD Garden.
Although 26-year-old Scheierman and 20-year-old González haven't wowed to open up the regular season, they provide the Celtics with crucial depth and should be called upon more in November.
