New Boston Celtics big man Chris Cenac Jr. might be known for his ability to pull down boards at a very high rate, but his head coach at the University of Houston Kelvin Sampson sees a future for the New Orleans, Louisiana native as an offensive threat as well. Sampson has a comparison in mind for the sort of prototype he sees for Cenac Jr. at the NBA level as well.
"If you sit in on an NBA draft meeting, and the staff is going around the table, the first thing they're going to usually ask is, 'Who is his comp?'," said Sampson in an interviewwith Celtics team reporter Marc D'Amico. "Who plays in the NBA do you think he most plays like?'"
"Well, somebody asked me that," added the Houston head coach. "I said, right now, his comp would be Channing
Frye."
Describing Cenac Jr. as "a 6'11 kid that can shoot it," Sampson sees a very intriguing potential in Boston's No. 27 overall pick. "I think Chris is going to end up being a 36, 37, 38 percent shooter (from beyond the arc)," he explained.
"But he also has the ability to be a double-figure rebounding guy. (He) doesn't turn the ball over much; he makes the right play – he's very unselfish."
