Like the Ship of Theseus, an NBA ball club is always the franchise it was last season, but changes bit by bit over time until the iteration you see one year bears no resemblance whatever to the team from sometimes as recently as just a few years ago. And at the end of an offseason that saw a sea change in Boston's roster (yes, pun intended), Boston point guard Derrick White is not taking that process personally.
"The business is the business, and especially nowadays, it feels like nobody's really safe, nobody's untradeable," said the Colorado native. "I mean, Giannis (Antetokounmpo), (Jaylen Brown), if they can get traded, anybody can get traded." The University of Colorado - Boulder alum made it clear that players try to maintain an even keel
behind the scenes in the face of all this change, even if he "wanted to see the best for them and know everybody's situations."
"What happens with them is different, but we don't really let it impact the locker room," White emphasized. As to how his role has changed his outlook, the Celtics guard revealed he has been encouraged to take on more of a leadership role with the team.
"I think every year you want to be more of a leader, more sure of yourself," said White. "You've been here for a while, you know what's going on and know what's expected, so I do have that."
"I think the coaching staff is trying to push me to be a little bit more and do a little bit more, so it's been a fun challenge integrating the new guys."
