That early July trade that sent star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George and draft assets took pretty much everyone by surprise save for the front offices of the Sixers and the Celtics. And while Boston President of Basketball Operations may have been agonizing over the deal in silence ahead of pulling the trigger, the players involved were both taken by surprise, as George himself recently revealed at his and new teammate Mike Conley's introductory press conference on Tuesday (Sep. 15) afternoon.
The Fresno State alum admitted "it was a bit surprising" to be dealt to Boston, but George believes he has plenty left to give the Celtics even so.
"I think obviously (I'm) bringing kind of a veteran stance (in)
leadership," explained the former Sixers forward, "being in this game for a while now and to be a great co-partner to (Jayson Tatum)."
"I think we've got an unbelievable roster, unbelievable coach, obviously a front office," continued George. "I've always admired everything Boston has done and stood for."
"So I think coming in with that attitude and that mindset to win. I'm all in, and I'm happy to pull along and do my part to try to lead this group back to where I think everybody here feels and wants."
