Boston Celtics big man Neemias Queta will participate in a community event in the city of Cambridge celebrating the region's sizable Portuguese community and their heritage, according to new reportingfrom Fall River Heritage News contributor Lurdes C. da Silva.
Dubbed the "Court Get Together: A Taste of Portugal," the event is open to the public at no charge on this coming Saturday, September 12, and will feature a custom-designed basketball court at local King Open School paying homage to he journey of Queta to the NBA and the Celtics. There will also be Portuguese food and culture celebrating the region's connections to Portugal, youth basketball activities, and more.
"This event brings together basketball, art and Portuguese traditions in a way
that reflects the values of inclusion and community that make Cambridge so special," organizers are quoted as having said.
"King Open School has one of the most genuine community identities we've encountered, making it the ideal location for our first US project," said André Costa, CEO and founder of Hoopers. "The school’s values, the neighborhood’s deep connection to Portugal, and the opportunity to feature a national icon like Neemias Queta created the perfect story to tell through art."
