The Boston Celtics tried to sign LeBron James in free agency this offseason. What does that tell us about the goals of Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens and Boston's front office for the 2026-27 NBA regular season and beyond, if anything?
On one hand, had such a move ended up going down, it would signal a willingness to push boundaries in pursuit of hanging Banner 19 next summer, given LeBron's history with the franchise, and how such a move might go down with fans of the team. But the failed pursuit of James can also hint at other things regarding how the team sees itself this summer, one that saw LBJ sign with the same team Boston dealt Jaylen Brown to, perhaps even triggering that signing.
The hosts of the "How Bout Them
Celtics!" podcast, Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance, took a closer look on a recent episode of their show. Check it out below!
