To star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum, being there is half the battle. The St. Louis native recently opened up about how being physically in the building for any of a variety of events in the ambit of an NBA star can create memorable connections fans remember fondly for the rest of their life at a recent panel discussion between Celtics alumni. He also touched on how important it is to him to create those moments whenever possible.
"I just remember, for me, I very much understand the superpower that we as athletes have," said Tatum. "And I understand that all the time we can't be available because of our jobs."
"But in the times when our schedule permits, when we can show up and we can be there physically, I understand and I've experienced
how far that goes," continued the Duke alum.
"Showing up on an off day, when these kids will usually only ever see us on TV," said Tatum. "And then to show up to their school in their community for a great cause, the impact that can have on younger kids, knowing they'll always remember that day that this player came to my school, my community."
"And just that positive impact that you can have on the next generation of kids that are going to shape the world in a great way, I think is just part of the responsibility that we have."
