When fans of the Boston Celtics saw how the player their favorite team picked up at No. 40 overall in the 2026 NBA Draft shot the ball from beyond the arc (and if we are being honest, from the free throw line as well) in his final season at the NCAA level with St. John's, to say expectations for the Spring Hill, Florida native were low would be quite the understatement.
But Mitchell only needed to play a single game with the Sin City Celtics at the NBA's 2026 Las Vegas Summer League to start changing minds, and he finished his stint with the Summer Celtics having convinced a good number of those fans he has a bright future with his new team. Logging 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 2.7 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game while shooting 37.5
from deep, they very well may have a point.
