We're just days away from the Boston Celtics getting started at training camp. Preseason games are right around the corner, and before we know it, the Oct. 20 season opener will be here. Before that, though, the Celtics coaching staff will be taking stock of some roster battles, as players fight for spots within the rotation and a healthy serving of minutes each night.
One key area where a roster battle could take place is at guard. Last season, Payton Pritchard shone both as a starter and, after Anfernee Simons was traded, off the bench. Now that Jaylen Brown is no longer on the team, Pritchard will once again be battling for a starting role alongside Derrick White. Of course, the Celtics may view Pritchard's best role as a sixth man, given
his scoring and playmaking ability in the second unit.
Adam Taylor and Mike Weber discussed that potential roster battle, naming Baylor Scheierman as a potential starter should Pritchard be tasked with coming off the bench. The duo discussed Pritchard's value in each role, why Scheierman could be a breakout candidate, and why starting the game is nowhere near as important as being on the floor to close it out.
