The 2026-27 NBA regular season is nearly here, and the Boston Celtics are nearly at full strength. Celtics guard Devin Carter was the only name on the Green Team's injury report, meaning Boston will have all of its major players ahead of its season opener against the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday afternoon.
Carter has mononucleosis, which is a nagging illness that could sideline him for at least a few weeks, however, there's no official timetable for a return. The Providence College standout, who landed the Celtics' final two-way contract on Saturday, missed three preseason contests due to illness. Even if Carter was healthy, he'd have a hard time breaking into the rotation during the first game of the entire season.
As for the rest of the Celtics,
there are no injuries to report at the moment. So, Celtics star Jayson Tatum should enter his first season opener since the 2024-25 campaign and first-year Celtics Mitchell Robinson and Paul George should make their Green Team debuts.
What the exact starting five will look like for the C's remains to be seen. Regardless, they're largely healthy for their marquee matchup with the Pistons, the reigning No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.
The Celtics and Pistons will face off at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit at 3 p.m. ET. The inaugural game of the regular season will air on NBC and Peacock and be followed by a primetime showdown between two other contenders in the East: the Philadelphia 76ers and the defending champion New York Knicks.
