It can take a long while to adapt to a new team as a veteran NBA player. And while there is still work to be done in that regard for new Boston Celtics Paul George and Mitchell Robinson, what we saw from them in the Celtics' 144-106 beatdown of the Philadelphia 76ers in preseason play on Saturday (Oct. 10) night shows us that this process is already well underway.
Boston head coach Joe Mazzulla had plenty to say on their timing with their new team postgame. "Defensively, they take things to another level ... it starts there. On the offensive end ... it’s just a timing thing. What we do is a very read-oriented thing. Timing is very important."
"So, I thought there was a significant difference from first half to second half on Paul (George)," he added,
"but that’s on us, that’s on me, Derrick (White) and (Jayson Tatum) to put him in positions and bring the offense to him and be further there."
"And I think it’s the same with Mitch (Robinson)," said the Celtics coach. "Mitch is just used to being in a pick and roll screener."
"We’re here asking to be a little more dynamic as far as reading off the ball and playing through, so habits that we have to be able to work those guys on. But I think tonight you saw a version of how impactful they could be on the defensive end."
