Boston Celtics fans got an early start to the preseason on Tuesday, September 15, as the franchise held an introductory news conference for Mike Conley and Paul George. Unfortunately, Mitchell Robinson, Boston's key free-agent addition, was unable to attend due to personal reasons.
Nevertheless, George and Conley both faced a string of questions from Celtics media. For George, queries about his recent injury issues and how the Celtics fanbase reacted to the nature of his arrival with the franchise were the most prominent. To his credit, he addressed every question head-on, providing thoughtful, well-reasoned responses.
Conley faced a slightly lighter brand of questions, primarily focusing on what attracted him to signing with the Celtics, his
initial impression of head coach Joe Mazzulla, and what type of impact he can make in the upcoming campaign. After all, Conley is entering his 20th NBA season and will undoubtedly assume a key locker room role.
Following the news conference, Matt Vautour, Brian Robb and Souichi Terada of MassLive shared their takes on the answers both veterans provided throughout their media availability. The trio discussed whether George can remain healthy and what type of role Conley could play, among other things.
