Even if the end of his NBA career is likely close, the Boston Celtics can still lean on veteran guard Mike Conley to help them notch some wins in the NBA's 2026-27 regular season. But the Fayetteville, Arkansas native has some additional capabilities that ought to have him valued by the team's front office and players alike that was recently attested to by the Athletic Minnesota Timberwolves beat writer Jon Krawczynski in a recent interview with CLNS Media.
Calling Conley "one of my absolute favorite people to have in a locker room" due to his openness with the media, Krawczynski related why his ease as a communicator will create a role off the court for the former Minnesota guard as well as on it. "Every single time you need something, whether
it's in good times or bad, Mike Conley is there to answer the questions, to explain to you what's going right or wrong. And then, on top of all of his very high skill level in terms of communicating those types of things and talking about the basketball of it, he's a great dude in the locker room (...)," he added.
"He ingratiates so much faith and trust from his teammates because of the way he goes about it and because of all that he's seen in this league," Krawczynski later said.
"Anthony Edwards, I swear every game you would walk into the Timberwolves locker room after the game, Ant is sitting right next to Mike Conley and they're going over everything that happened and what Mike saw that Ant could have done better or what he liked," added the Timberwolves beat writer.
"He is a guy who just really has a perfect way of delivering messages that help raise a player's performance, whether Mike is on the floor helping him do that or just on the bench or in the locker room steering him in the right direction as well."
