In terms of the NBA calendar, the month of August has an earned reputation for being the part of he year most devoid of meaningful news about the league. With one major exception, at least – the annual release of the schedule for the season soon to come.
And this summer, the start of August has been an especially drowsy month for Boston Celtics fans up to the release of the NBA's 2026-27 regular season schedule, clarifying what fans of the team can expect as the Celtics' first campaign without star forward Jaylen Brown in a decade. Here at the Celtics Wire, we have identified a dozen games you may want to keep tabs on for future watching purposes.
So without further ado, let's dive into the highlights of the season ahead for Boston.
1) Opening Night at Detroit Pistons - 3pm ET on NBC
This ought
to be self-explanatory, but if Boston kicking off the entire NBA season vs. an old rival doesn't do it for you, little else will (apart from a face-off with the Philadelphia 76ers, that is).
2) 10/23 vs. New York Knicks - 7 pm ET on Prime
A measuring stick game if ever there was one, Boston gets a shot at the reigning champs in TD Garden, new Boston big man Mitchell Robinson getting an early matchup vs. his former club.
3) 11/10 at Philadelphia 76ers - 9 pm ET on NBC
The first meeting between these two teams, something happened this summer to make it even spicier than usual for these Atlantic Division foes. We can't quite recall -- can you?
4) 11/11 at Toronto Raptors - 8 pm ET on NBC Sports Boston
We reserve the right to change our mind on this one should Kawhi Leonard not end up on this squad. But the potential shape of the East might start to come into focus when this contest ends.
5) 11/24 at Washington Wizards - 9 pm ET on NBC
A key NBA Cup tilt vs. Boston native and No. 1 pick AJ Dybantsa? Sign. Us. Up. This one ought to have a LOT more juice than wiz games have had in quite some time.
6) 11/27 vs. Atlanta Hawks - 9 pm on NBC Sports Boston
Another key NBA Cup contest against maybe the only team that the Celtics truly need to worry about if winning the Cup is a goal of theirs this season. We'll be tuning in, of course.
7) 11/29 at San Antonio Spurs - 5 pm on NBC Sports Boston
A game against Victor Wembanyama and the runners-up to the current NBA title, this one is going to be circled on the calendar by fans as much as the players.
8) 12/25 vs. Miami Heat - 3:30 pm ET on ABC/ESPN
A Christmas Day game at home vs. the team that Boston lost the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes to should be must-see television. Or cable. Or streaming. Just tune in.
9) 1/1 at Utah Jazz - 10:30 om ET on NBC Sports Boston
Our first look at the new-look Utah Jazz under former Boston President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge will be worth the watch and then some in our opinion.
10) 1/7 at Los Angeles Lakers - 11 pm ET on Prime
When these two old rivals collide, it is always great basketball. And with both ball clubs on the upswing again, this tilt ought to have some real draw.
11) 1/21 vs Philadelphia 76ers - 8:30 pm ET on Prime
This game should have been No. 1 on Boston's schedule in our opinion given it is Jaylen Brown's first game against the Celtics in his former home arena of TD Garden.
12) 2/17 at Oklahoma City Thunder - 10:30 pm ET on ESPN
One of the better measuring stick games on the slate this season, we expect your eyes to join ours for this new rival of Boston. Will the Celtics finally get a win against the Thunder now that their vaunted depth has taken a hit?
