The Boston Celtics have reportedlyadded more depth to their training camp squad with a recent signing, according to a recent report from HoopsHype. Per the Celtics Wire sister site, the team "have signed guard Caleb Grill to a training camp deal." A 6-foot-3 guard who played his college ball for UNLV, Iowa State, and, most recently, for Missouri, Grill will add some more competition for Boston's open regular and two way roster spot, joining Las Vegas Summer League standout Milos Uzan and former Sacramento Kings lottery pick Devin Carter in competing for one of the two spots.
As has been noted elsewhere, that likely means a two way deal given the Celtics current cap situation and likely goals, but Grill has a shot given his past play at the G League
level, where the 26-year-old put up 10.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists with the Greensboro Swarm (the developmental franchise of the Charlotte Hornets) and Windy City Bulls (the G League squad for the Chicago Bulls).
There, Grill shot 38.5 percent from beyond the arc, 71.4 percent from the free throw line, and 43.9 percent from the field overall.
Grill will most likely use this as a springboard to an opportunity with the Maine Celtics or another league given the competition he is up against.
But with Boston a bit thin in their backcourt, it is also not out of the question that a strong training camp showing could see the Maize, Kansas glom onto that open two way deal.
