Trading Jaylen Brown was certainly a bold decision by Brad Stevens and the Boston Celtics front office. After all, the decision to move him came shortly after he wrapped up a career year where he stepped into a leading role following Jayson Tatum's Achilles tear.
Celtics fans could have understood flipping Brown in a deal for Giannis Antetokounmpo, because they would have been getting a top-five talent and former two-time MVP in return. However, Giannis ended up being traded to the Miami Heat, and Boston pivoted toward Paul George and draft capital, which has clearly left a sour taste in the mouths of Celtics fans the world over.
Whenever a team makes such a sizeable move, there's always the risk that things don't work out as planned. Tatum could
need to miss more time than anticipated, or George could spend another season bouncing between the starting lineup and the injury report.
