Speaking to the media at the start of his second season as the head coach of the Maine Celtics, Phil Pressey had plenty to say about a new Boston Celtics big man he will get to work with a good amount in the coming 2026-27 season. That center is former Houston standout Chris Cenac Jr., the Celtics' sole pick of the first round, and an uber-talented big who was ranked in the top 10 nationally heading into college.
Cenac, who has already played a bit at the NBA level to add some variety to his tenure in the NCAA ranks, will face a different sort of environment on the court than he has at either level, according to Pressey. "He just has to be who he is – he's a versatile big man, can shoot a little bit, (he is) pretty athletic," said the Maine coach.
"Defensively, he can protect the rim," added the former Celtics floor general. "He can do a little bit of everything from that, from his talent."
"But this is going to be his first time in the G League, so he's going to have more opportunity, more opportunity to succeed," said Pressey, "but then also to have some failure."
"And I think as a young player, you learn from your failure, you learn from your mistakes. So I'm excited for him to get out there. He's going to have a good time playing at the Expo, but all in all, he just has to be who he is."
