The Boston Celtics elected to add former New York Knicks big man Mitchell Robinson in free agency this summer, bolstering Boston's big man rotation in ways that one might not expect rising Celtics center Neemias Queta to be too crazy about. Given Robinson's resume as a champion center with the Knicks, the argument can be rationally made to start the Western Kentucky alum over Queta, who worked hard last season to establish himself as Boston's top big.
But in one of Queta's first stateside appearances since Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens inked Robinson to a deal, the Utah State alum opened up about the move, and he did not sound especially worried about his starter status ahead of the start of the 2026-27 NBA regular season.
"I'm not too worried about (how the Robinson deal changes the big man rotation)," said Queta via CLNS Media. "That's a (Boston head coach) Joe (Mazzulla) thing to figure out."
"I'm out there just welcoming my new teammates (with) open arms," he continued. "Mitchell's going to be a great addition for us. I'm extremely happy I don't have to go against him anymore because he used to get all these rebounds."
"It's going to be good to have him on our side and being able to have a player that's so accomplished, being able to guard multiple positions. One of the best rebounders the league has ever seen, so nothing but a welcome mood. Open arms for him, and I'm excited to be his teammate."
