The start of any NBA training camp is almost always an optimistic moment, even for teams that face considerable challenges to whatever goals they may be working toward. And while the Boston Celtics are not facing an especially great shot at hanging a banner this season as the team begins to retool for a title chase in the near-term future, spirits were indeed high after the team's first camp practice on Tuesday (Sep. 29) morning.
"I think there's a lot of motivation to become the most connected team possible," said backup Boston big man Luka Garza viaCLNS Media. "You see that from every guy on the floor. You see that from the coaching staff. When you have that mindset going into training camp, it's exciting."
"But we've been working on this before
training camp, (in) the months leading up to it, (in) the summer with the other guys," he added. "And since I've been back in September, it's just been really, really high focus."
And while things have been in motion for some time to prepare for the campaign ahead, per Garza, the push began in earnest with a message from coach Joe Mazzulla. "I think it was about being the most connected team possible," he explained. "And, if we can do that, then we're going to put ourselves in a great position."
"And so I think there's a bunch of details and different things that we're going to do to reach towards that. I think it started yesterday with that meeting."
