The Boston Celtics made the trip to Pennsylvania to take on the Philadelphia 76ers for the second and final time in preseason action for the 2026-27 NBA season. Like the first time the two Atlantic Division rivals squared off, one ball club sat its stars while the other let their deep rotation see some serious floor time.
Unlike the first preseason meeting between Boston and Philly, the game was not a blowout, instead requiring overtime to settle the score with a 125-120 win under the coaching of Boston assistant Sam Cassell. The win sees the Celtics go undefeated in preseason play with a 4-0 record. The contest was a close one throughout, with the Sixers building a small cushion in the penultimate frame only to see Boston come back to tie it up
in regulation at the end of the fourth quarter. Rookie Chris Cenac Jr. fouled out in the extra period with 12 points, 8 rebounds, an assist, a steal, and a block, but Hugo González led all Celtics with 21 points, with Ron Harper Jr. (16 points) also playing well in his preseason scoring debut.
Milos Uzan (14 points) also played well among the starters, and Luka Garza (13 points, 6 rebounds) had a good game off the bench in the win.
The Celtics finish their preseason with the road victory, and will next take on the Detroit Pistons in the very first contest of the 2026-27 NBA regular season this Tuesday (Oct. 20) afternoon.
