Former Boston Celtics big man Guerschon Yabusele is back in Europe after a second attempt to break through in the NBA has fallen flat. And in a recent videofor Eurohoops Greece, the Dancing Bear withstood quite the roast as penance for that abortive NBA return now that he is suiting up for the legendary Panathinaikos of the Greek Basketball League and the EuroLeague.
"My guest was drafted 16th in the NBA, ended up in China, rebuilt his career in Europe and somehow made it all the way back to the NBA just to fail there again," joked host Nikos Mandelis. "He is living proof that if you never give up you can fail at the same dream twice."
Yabu took the jokes in stride, including the suggestion (a likely nod to that 'Dancing Bear' sobriquet) that he danced
on the sidelines to win the hearts and minds of Celtics fans since he was not god enough to get on the court in his first stint in the NBA with Boston.
"It is what it is," said Yabusele. "We can see (his Celtics tenure) a thousand different ways. I had fun, and it was a great experience. And I was happy for my friends that they are on the court."
Continuing to needle him, Mandelis gifted the Boston big man alum a minuscule Celtics jersey the size a small child might fit in. "I chose this size to represent your role with the team," he wisecracked. "Small," observed Yabu. "Okay, I love it – yeah, that's a good gift."
You can call the Dancing Bear a lot of things, but it seems a bad sport is not among them.
