Seeing as pretty much anyone even tangentially connected to the Boston Celtics has weighed in on the supposed beef between former Celtics teammates Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, it ought to come as no surprise that former Boston forward and current broadcaster Cedric Maxwell was asked his thoughts on the ever-growing kerfuffle between the two Celtics alumni as well.
"I think it's so much to do about nothing," said Maxwell via98.5 The Sports Hub's "Toucher and Hardy" show. "You have two players who are very dominant. You have one guy who, in Jaylen Brown, probably did not want to go. But at the end of the day, I think it was a financial thing. The fact that you had to pay two guys probably $150 million in your salary cap, you wouldn't have enough
guys really to fill the void, so I think that's what eventually they did."
"For both guys right now to be sniping back at each other, more Brown – and I love Jaylen Brown; he's one of my favorite players, outstanding year – but you're in another city now," he added.
"And at some point, even I remember when I got traded," said Maxwell. "You just let it go and you go on with your team."
"Is there some sour milk? Yeah, because you look at the kind of year he had last year. He was almost an MVP last year. And then to be traded, that was probably very disappointing for him."
