Jaylen Brown to host going-away party in Boston on August 30

Former Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown never requested a trade out of Beantown. And when he was eventually dealt to the rival Philadelphia 76ers, he launched his phone across the room. That doesn't sound like a player who was eager to leave the city he represented for 10 years in the NBA.

That reluctance added to the friction between the five-time All-Star and some members of the Celtics organization, especially the front office. Although Brown wouldn't elaborate on his displeasure with the C's during his introductory press conference in Philadelphia on Thursday afternoon, it's clear a shocking trade wasn't how he wanted to end his time in Boston. That's why the former longest-tenured Celtic is taking matters into his own hands and throwing

a going-away party on Sunday, August 30, at the Boston Common.

"Community is very important to me," Brown said at the Francis J. Myers Recreation Center in Philadelphia. "I've been in Boston for 10 years. I'm 29 years old, so I was there a third of my life. I met some some people, some lifelong friends, some people I'll still be connected to."

No matter how frustrated Brown is with the Celtics, he emphasized that he still loves Boston and its citizens. This late-August block party demonstrates that and will serve as a final farewell to the city that raised him.

"A lot of my most important years, my most developmental years as a young man, I spent in Boston," Brown said. "I'm very grateful for my experience."

The event, dubbed "741 Frequency Fest" after Brown's personal brand, is open to the public and will take place around the Charles Street entrance of the Common. It will run from 2 p.m. ET to 7 p.m. ET and feature carnival games, a surprise concert, and more.

"Boston, you helped shape the journey," an announcement from Brown's company read. "Now let’s celebrate it."
