Former Boston Celtics player and assistant coach Phil Pressey is evidently planning to stick around the City of Portland, Maine another season. According to recent reportingfrom CLNS Media senior contributor Bobby Manning, Pressey will return in his role as the head coach of the Maine Celtics for the 226-27 G league season kicking off this Fall.
Pressey, who played for Boston from 2013 to 2015 after going unselected out of the University of Missouri in the 2013 NBA Draft, went on to play professionally in the NBA and other leagues for nearly a decade. After, he made the leap to the other side of the clipboard in 2022 to be an assistant coach at his collegiate alma mater.
After a season in that role, he rejoined the Celtics as an assistant, and
took over as coach of the team's G League franchise at the start of the 2025-26 NBA season.
Several notable Celtics coaching alumni have served in that role, including Austin Ainge, Scott Morrison, Jarell Christian, and Tyler Lashbrook.
Under Pressey, Maine finished with an 18-18 regular season record in 2025-26 (good enough for eighth in the Eastern Conference) and a 9-5 record in the Tip-Off Tournament, putting them in third place for the East Division. The Maine Celtics also made the 2026 Playoffs as a seven seed, losing in the first round to the eventual champions, the Greensboro Swarm.
