Paul George is no Jaylen Brown, and the former Philadelphia 76ers veteran forward made it clear he harbors no ill will towards fans of the Boston Celtics who were less than thrilled about his joining the team via the trade that sent the Georgia native to the Sixers earlier this offseason.
Speaking to the media at his introductory press conference on Tuesday (Sep. 15) afternoon, George opened up about the initial ire over the trade by many a Boston fan. "Listen, I understand the circumstances. I understand how huge JB was not only for the organization, but here in the city," began PG-13, "so I didn't take it personal."
"To be honest, they should have a relationship emotionally to that trade," continued the 16-season veteran with a nod to Brown's
legacy with the Celtics.
"But my job here is (to) come in, it's a great opportunity for me," said George. "Obviously the last two years have been rough with injuries, but for myself personally, I feel great again."
"I feel like I've turned that corner of dealing with injuries and now re-establishing myself and from a physical standpoint again. And with that, I can carry it over to the court. So, again, no personal feelings towards the initial ... how it (was) received in here in Boston."
"To be honest, it's fair, but one foot in front of the other, hopefully with how we start this year, they understand this is a new team and something that they can be proud of," said the new Boston wing.
