Coming out of Week 2, the Minnesota Vikings are riding high and are enjoying themselves atop the NFC North. They are the only undefeated team in the division, and they showed they can win when things get the toughest for any team. A fourth-quarter comeback and a win in the monsoon that was Chicago are some big moments for a team that had lower expectations.
Despite leading the NFC North, some folks remain skeptical.
CBS Sports' Zachary Pereles reviewed ideas and statements coming out of Week 2 and decided what an overreaction was and what wasn't. One of the statements he looked at was "The Vikings are going to win the NFC North."
He stated that was an overreaction, and explained, "It's just too early for me to say, definitively, that the Vikings
are going to win the division. I have real questions about the offense, mainly quarterback. This is by no means a shot at the Vikings. They're just surviving by very thin margins -- several penalties and a fourth-and-1 stop saved them in Week 1, and we already discussed the narrow escapes in Week 2 -- and those margins usually don't hold up over an entire season. It's a great start, but it's just the start, and the NFC North is very open."
Week 3 has a chance to allow the Vikings to improve to 3-0 when they play a winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers squad. Their offense has been struggling while the Vikings' defense remains at the top of their game. Perhaps this is a statement that can be revisited after a dominant Week 3 if it plays out that way.
