Kyler Murray appeared to settle into Kevin O'Connell's offense in the final quarter of the Minnesota Vikings' 15-10 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. In the team's final two drives, which spanned 14 of the final 15 minutes of the game, Murray completed 13/14 passes for 120 yards.
Overall, he completed 27 of 37 passes (73%) for 247 yards, throwing no touchdowns or interceptions. It was an unspectacular performance that offered some promise moving forward, but not enough to erase the offensive struggles that have followed this team for four weeks.
Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report graded all 32 starting quarterbacks from Week 4. He acknowledged that Murray was without Justin Jefferson but didn't let him off the hook for failing to lead
the Vikings to a touchdown.
Justin Jefferson may not have been in the lineup due to an injury, but the Minnesota Vikings still had running back Aaron Jones Sr., wide receiver Jordan Addison and tight end T.J. Hockenson on the field. The left side of Minnesota's offensive line sustained injuries, which became problematic. Even so, the Vikings still featured a superior roster.
Yet Murray and Co. failed to finish drives. Will Reichard was Minnesota's most effective performer by converting all five of his field-goal attempts. The Vikings' offense didn't score during its three red-zone trips. The unit finished eight of 18 during third-down attempts. More should be expected from Murray.
Maybe everyone saw a glimpse of what Murray can become after a strong fourth-quarter effort, where he completed 13 of 14 passes. It's a potential stepping stone for offensive improvement as a whole.
Grade: C
The final grade may feel a little low to some who appreciated that Murray's 73% completion percentage was the second-highest among any Vikings quarterback since the beginning of 2025. It may have felt too high for those who felt this offense struggled against an inferior Dolphins squad.
So maybe the C grade is fair. But acknowledging the final quarter is vital and, hopefully, a sign of things to come in the coming weeks.
