The Minnesota Vikings (6-0) own the longest active winning streak in the NFL. Dating back to November 30, 2025, they have won 11 games in a row, leaning on an exceptional defense and offense that emphasizes ball control.
On Sunday, they head to Ford Field to take on the Detroit Lions (4-2), who have won two straight and are looking to stay within striking distance of the NFC North lead. The Lions' strengths are the opposite of the Vikings', ranking 2nd in scoring offense and yards per game through seven games, while no one is allowing more yards than Detroit.
Minnesota's last four wins have come against teams with a combined record of 7-20. The Lions are the first opponent in a tough four-game stretch where the Vikings will play the Bills, Packers,
and 49ers. Skeptics are waiting for Minnesota to come crashing back to Earth, and Sunday could be the first evidence of a regression if the Vikings' offense can't score some points.
Here are three bold predictions for the Vikings' matchup against the Lions.
Kyler Murray will throw for over 300 yards
One way you know you're making a bold prediction is if you can visualize people closing out of your article after reading. Minnesota's offense ranks 29th in passing yards. While Kyler Murray has avoided turnovers (two interceptions on 125 attempts), he hasn't consistently attacked defenses downfield.
Kevin O'Connell said after last week's win over the Indianapolis Colts that the Vikings' offense is "not far off" from finding its footing. Four runs on the opening drive led to a turnover on downs, and a 3rd-and-5 on Minnesota's second drive ended in an incompletion when RG Will Fries pushed into Murray, who was ready to fire to a wide-open Justin Jefferson.
Although the Vikings' defense has been elite since their 11-game winning streak began, O'Connell knows the offense will need to score to keep up with their next four opponents. Expect Murray to be less gunshy on Sunday, but here's hoping that doesn't result in recklessness. Murray goes for over 300, providing optimism moving forward that this passing attack can return to its pre-2025 self.
The Vikings will intercept Jared Goff
Like Murray, Lions QB Jared Goff has avoided turnovers this year. He has not thrown an interception through six games. However, Goff has still managed to complete 67.3% of his passes for 1,788 yards and 14 touchdowns for an offense that is tied for 4th-best in EPA/play.
I'm not sure Minnesota can completely shut down this year's Goff, but they'll pressure him and force him into some bad plays. When the two teams last played, the Vikings forced Goff to turn the ball over five times (two interceptions, three fumbles). It may be difficult to replicate that production, but look for Brian Flores to flummox Goff into at least an extra possession.
The Vikings will stop a fourth-down conversion
Minnesota was somewhat susceptible to critical conversion attempts last week against Indianapolis. They allowed the Colts to convert 8-of-15 third-down attempts and their lone fourth-down attempt. Detroit converted 5-of-10 third-down attempts against the Green Bay Packers in Week 7 but went 0-for-2 on fourth-down, including a controversial 4th-and-1 attempt from their own 24-yard line.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell said that fear of stopping the Packers' offense and gaining another possession played into last week's decision. I don't see him being nearly that aggressive from his own territory against the staunch Vikings defense. But I do think that this game will be close, forcing Campbell into a tough decision. Give me Flores' unit after they spent a week cleaning things up on the "weighty" downs.
