The Minnesota Vikings' defense came out to play and kept the Bears' offense from getting going. The weather made things messy, but the Vikings did just enough to let Will Reichard's leg do the work.
The weather did no team any favors, but the Vikings seemed to be led by their ground game and Aaron Jones Sr. He converted big plays when they needed him most. While they never found the endzone, without Jones and his shiftiness in space, this could have easily been a 3-0 win for the Bears.
This will be a fun report card to hash out, starting with the quarterback position.
Quarterback: B
Carson Wentz did not have to go and win the game today, and he didn't allow the Bears to take it away from him either. He took what their defense was giving him, and what the weather
would allow him to achieve. Passing was tough in the torrential downpour, but he didn't turn the ball over, and that's all you can ask in a game like that.
Running Back: A
Aaron Jones was the biggest piece of either offense in Week 2's Vikings-Bears matchup. He had 105 yards on the ground and averaged just under five yards per carry. It was a throwback performance from the veteran running back, and Vikings fans should feel good knowing he can still produce like this while Jordan Mason is on injured reserve.
Wide Receivers and Tight Ends: B+
The rain really took away the impact of either group of receivers on the field today. That being said, the Vikings group did make some plays, but most importantly, they were blocking very well. They played a big role in the success that Aaron Jones had and in allow drives to keep being extended.
Offensive Line: B
The offensive line allowed three sacks and five quarterback hits, which wasn't ideal. However, the run game we have been gushing over was able to be as impactful as it was due to their play. The unit remains healthy; they are playing well through two weeks. They just need to shore up the protection a bit more, but not playing in a monsoon should help.
Defensive Line: A
The Vikings' defense was once again led by the pressure created by their defensive line, namely Dallas Turner. He secured two sacks on Sunday, and he was able to lead the group that never gave Caleb Williams or Tyson Bagent any time for plays to develop.
Linebackers: A
Andrew Van Ginkel and Blake Cashman played superb games on Sunday. Both men were part of the pressure and run-stopping for the Vikings' defense. As long as they both are healthy, the sky is the limit for this Vikings' defense under the coaching of Brian Flores.
Secondary: A
The only thing stopping this from being an A+ is the last drive of the Bears. The Vikings nearly gave up a comeback to Tyson Bagent and the Bears but they stood strong. Before that, Isaiah Rodgers nearly had an interception to go with his blocked field goal, and Byron Murphy Jr. did secure a pick to help them win the turnover battle.
