The old adage is "the grass is always greener on the other side". However, I believe that the grass is greener where you water it. We are going to find out which is true with Kyler Murray in 2026.
When Murray was named the starting quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings, the pressure immediately ramped up to 11 for the former Heisman Trophy winner. His final few seasons in Arizona were less than ideal, and now he has a chance to prove the doubters wrong. Bill Barnwell of ESPN named Murray as a player under the most pressure entering 2026, and here are some excerpts as to why:
Murray has to prove that he can stay healthy and thrive within the context of a new, more popular offensive system. . .If it works out, Murray should have a career year throwing
to one of the league's best sets of receivers. He'll prove he can operate in another style of offense, opening more doors for him around the NFL. . .If Murray can't stay healthy or isn't a great fit in the offense, well, he's probably looking at his last guaranteed starting role. There will always be interest in a quarterback of Murray's talents, but he'll likely be looking at QB competitions (or a return to the baseball diamond) moving forward if things don't work out in 2026.
While it seems marginally dramatic to say this is Murray's last shot at a starting role, as he is just 29 years old, it does feel like his best opportunity for success. What happens next is up to him.
