The 2027 NFL Draft will take place in Washington, D.C. next year. In that draft, the Vikings still have their first-round pick, but a lot could happen in the next 8 months. Before then, though, there will be plenty of speculation and buildup for the team and who they may add to the roster through the draft in a class that many are saying could be one of generational wealth.
The Ringer's Todd McShay recently released the latest 2027 NFL mock draft of the cycle, which has the team going with a new defensive addition in Texas edge rusher Colin Simmons. He is considered one of the best defenders in the 2027 NFL Draft, so this would be a steal for the Vikings.
McShay explains the Stone pick, writing, "Simmons plays fast and angry and is the kind of
front-seven defender who can change the personality of a defense. He can rush from multiple alignments, chase plays down, and set a much stronger edge than his length would suggest. He still has technical growth ahead, but the explosiveness, instincts, and motor are all NFL difference-maker traits. Brian Flores could align Simmons wide, mug him inside, or hide him in a pressure package—the offense will know he’s coming, but not from where."
Simmons is considered by some to be the best edge rusher in the 2027 NFL Draft, so adding him to a Brian Flores defense would be diabolical. It would also arguably give the Vikings the best pair of young pass rushers in the NFL.
