The Minnesota Vikings signed Kyler Murray in March, hoping to revitalize his career in 2026. But three drives into the season opener against the Green Bay Packers, Murray suffered a concussion while scrambling. Carson Wentz replaced him and helped lead Minnesota to a 39-22 victory.
With Murray still in the concussion protocol, Wentz started against the Chicago Bears in Week 2. Steady rain was a major factor, but the Vikings escaped Soldier Field with a 9-3 win.
These were the two most recent times Minnesota dealt with a new starting quarterback. J.J. McCarthy started in Week 18 last year against the Packers in a 16-3 victory. One week earlier, Max Brosmer started on Christmas Day in a 23-10 win over the Detroit Lions.
After Sunday's win against
the Bears, Kevin Seifert tweeted that the Vikings were the first team in NFL history to win four straight games with four different starting quarterbacks, according to ESPN Research.
This week will include another shake-up, with Murray set to return to the starting lineup when Minnesota faces the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He will look to help the Vikings get off to a 3-0 start and hopefully settle in as the team's long-term starter this season.
