In what can only be considered a rare sighting over the last two years, the offense actually looked somewhat competent for the Minnesota Vikings. Minnesota traveled to New Orleans to play the Saints, leaving New Orleans with a 23-13 victory and becoming the first 5-0 team in the NFL. Here are three instant takeaways from the ten-point victory.
The Kyler Murray - Justin Jefferson connection grows
We have been waiting for things to click between Kyler Murray and Justin Jefferson, and we finally got a glimpse into what that pairing could look like. Jefferson, playing his first game back home since 2020, totaled six receptions for 79 yards and a touchdown. It's very encouraging to see this duo get on the same page today, and hopefully we see this pair blossom as the weeks go on.
Is ball security a concern?
Three fumbles in one
game is a less-than-ideal stat, and to still win by ten points could be considered a miracle. Aaron Jones Sr. and Myles Price had a pair of what could have been backbreaking fumbles in the red zone, but New Orleans could not capitalize on the mistakes. Once again, the defense had to bail out the rest of the team, which is something that can't happen every game.
Minnesota desperately needs Jordan Mason or Jordan Addison back
The first-half injury to T.J. Hockenson did not help this fact, but the fact remains. There have been rumors of Minnesota making a splash before the trade deadline in November, and it could be to acquire either a running back or a wide receiver. A running back might make more sense, but this team misses both Jordan Mason and Jordan Addison on the field.
