It was reported by The Athletic's Alec Lewis that J.J. McCarthy will not play in the game due to an ankle injury he suffered in their second preseason game. With him missing that final game, his future with the team is now being discussed in a new light.

ESPN's Kevin Seifert posted on social media after McCarthy was ruled out, saying, "Trading J.J. McCarthy can't be ruled out, but from everything I know, the situation isn't urgent, dire or toxic enough for the Vikings to just give him away. We shall see how the next few days play out."

Earlier in the week, NFL Media's Kevin Patra discussed the idea of a trade involving McCarthy.

He went as far as to say if a team shows interest, they should "jump on it."

It is going to be a very interesting day and a half between McCarthy and the franchise that drafted him.
