The Vikings quarterback battle did not even make it to the first preseason game. After weeks of build-up, OTAs, and training camp practices, the team named their starter pretty quickly. The Minnesota Vikings named Kyler Murray as their starting quarterback for the start of the regular season back on August 11.
Since that time, he has appeared in one preseason game, and the talk about what is possible has ramped up. Recently, a new voice offered their two cents on what is possible for Kyler Murray on the Vikings in the form of an old teammate of the former Heisman Trophy winner.
Former Cardinals teammate Chris Streveler spoke to The Action Network and was asked about several topics related to his former teammate. One of those was related to the
Vikings coaching staff and how it can help Murray in 2026 and beyond.
He shared, "I do think the aspect of coaching is very, very important in the NFL. It gets overlooked a lot because these are pros and grown adults, but coaching is extremely important. When you go down that rabbit hole of where guys have success and don’t have success -- I’m not saying coaching failed him in Arizona because there were a lot of things that happened with coaching staff turnover, injuries, stuff like that. But going to Minnesota and having the great coaching we’ve seen with these other guys, it’s going to help him get back to playing some of his best football.”
Murray has the best players around him, but this is beyond a doubt the best coaching he's had during his NFL tenure. If the Vikings can get out of him what they did with Sam Darnold they could be cooking with gas in 2026.
