The Minnesota Vikings are gearing up for Week 1 with Kyler Murray as their starting quarterback. They are seemingly happy and excited about the move and what he can bring to the team, but the shadow of J.J. McCarthy looms in more ways than one.
On Wednesday, while speaking to the media, Vikings general manager Nolam Teasley spoke about the status of McCarthy with the team and on the roster. He made it clear that he is seemingly not going anywhere and is poised to be the backup in 2026 at the very least.
Teasley on McCarthy stated that he's “Pleased that he’s part of the present version of the Minnesota Vikings and excited about his future.”
McCarthy has struggled with being healthy and adjusting to the team's week-to-week in his career. It is hard
to say that him sitting any longer will help matters one way or another but at the very least he is around and could become an asset one way or another down the road.
