The drafts are done, rosters are to be set (pending you play lineup leagues and not the superior best ball leagues), and matchups are going to be looked at for fantasy football ahead of week one. If your league also has defenses, and you chose the Minnesota Vikings defense, you are probably wondering if you should start them in week one against the Green Bay Packers.
There is a case to be made for either side of the coin.
Should you start them? Yes. The Packers are going to be without Josh Jacobs, as he is currently on the NFL Commissioner's Exempt list while awaiting a suspension after being charged with two misdemeanors this offseason. Pair that with Tucker Kraft returning to live game action after tearing his ACL in November, and the Packers lacking
an actual WR1. This defense, even with how young it got this offseason, should be able to limit this offense.
Should you start them? No. This defense got significantly younger this offseason, especially along the defensive line with their pair of rookies in Caleb Banks and Domonique Orange. The secondary has question marks at safety, which Green Bay's track-meet-level receiver room could expose. The rookies will be targeted early and often; how will they react?
I believe you may be safe starting the Vikings defense in Week 1. If you somehow decided to take two defenses, it could be worth benching Minnesota, at least for week one, until we know what this unit looks like.
