There may not be a bigger quarterback competition in the NFL this training camp season than what is taking place in Minnesota. The Vikings had mediocre quarterback play last season, with three different starters, most notably J.J. McCarthy. Minnesota sought out competition, and competition they found in the form of Kyler Murray. This battle has brought national attention to Eagan, Minnesota, with CBS Sports dialed in.
Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports has been keeping track of training camp quarterback battles, and here are his thoughts on McCarthy vs. Murray, as he has been tuned in to Minnesota's training camp so far:
He writes, "Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy are entrenched in a head-to-head competition for the Week 1 job in Minnesota. To begin
camp, Kevin O'Connell split the reps between the two signal-callers, but Murray does appear to be gaining momentum as of late. . .While Murray has a shaky injury history (has missed 30 of a possible 68 games over the last five seasons), his talent provides a much higher upside for O'Connell's offense."
Sullivan would go on to predict that Murray wins the starting job and breaks the huddle in week one. It will remain to be seen who Kevin O'Connell names as the starter, but so far, Murray appears to be in the lead.
