The NFL's November 10 trade deadline is fast approaching. Teams with postseason aspirations are working the phones, looking to poach players from teams ready to offload players as they set their sights on the future.
That makes the Minnesota Vikings a likely "buyer" as the deadline approaches. Currently 6-0, the Vikings boast one of the league's best defenses, but their offense ranks 30th in total yards and will have to improve if the team wants to make a deep postseason run.
Running back is one of Minnesota's top needs, which has linked them to Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor in potential trade speculation. The Colts already traded guard Quenton Nelson (Seahawks) and DT DeForest Buckner (49ers) this week, suggesting that more
moves could be coming.
Adam Schefter, Ian Rapoport, and The Athletic's Jonathan Jones have all listed the Vikings as a potential suitor for Taylor if Indianapolis trades him. Bleacher Report's Zach Buckley predicts that, because of all the speculation, Taylor ultimately winds up in Minnesota.
With market interest like this, Indy's asking price is sure to be significant. To that end, Schefter and Rapoport noted that Colts owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon "views Taylor as a key part of the organization and a likely mainstay in their rebuild."
If Indy is starting over, though, it may not make a lot of sense to hang onto a 27-year-old running back. Teams will have to be put prime compensation on the table, but with so many suitors eyeballing Taylor, that feels almost certain to happen.
The potential hang-up, of course, is Taylor's asking price. As much as I'd like to see Taylor end up with the Vikings, I don't want the team to give up a first-round pick for him. However, The Athletic's Alec Lewis speculated on Tuesday that the asking price could be in the neighborhood of a second-round pick.
That would be much easier to stomach for the 27-year-old running back, even if the deal requires additional picks. And with Aaron Jones still managing his knee injury, Minnesota's need for a running back continues to loom.
