The Minnesota Vikings will be short two quarterbacks going into their preseason finale against the Denver Broncos on Friday.
It was reported by The Athletic's Alec Lewis that J.J. McCarthy will not play in the game due to an ankle injury he suffered in their second preseason game. It was reported earlier in the day that he was poised to start, but now he is set to miss it altogether.
Tonight, the quarterbacks will be Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer as they fight for roster spots. In Wentz's case, he has a chance to earn the QB2 with the absence of McCarthy. It was expected that tonight would play a role in that, but with the younger signal-caller now missing the game, the ball is solely in the veteran's court.
On a final note, ESPN's Kevin Seifert
posted on social media after McCarthy was ruled out, saying, "Trading J.J. McCarthy can't be ruled out, but from everything I know, the situation isn't urgent, dire or toxic enough for the Vikings to just give him away. We shall see how the next few days play out."
It is about to be a very interesting 48 hours in Minneapolis.
