The Oklahoma Sooners have a consistency problem as they start the 2026 college football season. The Sooners are 3-3 but haven't won back-to-back games yet.
Oklahoma started the year with a dominant 51-0 win over the University of Texas at El Paso Miners, then followed it up with a 17-10 loss to the Michigan Wolverines. The Sooners returned home to beat the New Mexico Lobos 14-7, before losing 41-13 to the Georgia Bulldogs. They then stunned the Texas Longhorns 24-17, before losing 21-13 to the Kentucky Wildcats.
Safety Omarion Robinson was asked about the consistency issues; he said it's a matter of doing the small details right.
"I feel like it's just going back to the basics," Robinson said via SoonerScoop. "Just being Oklahoma. The small details
that we can fix."
For Oklahoma, the challenge is turning those small corrections into consistent, week-to-week performance. The Sooners have shown they can compete with quality opponents, highlighted by their win over Texas, but the loss to Kentucky exposed how quickly missed opportunities can undo progress. Sharper execution, fewer costly mistakes and greater consistency across all four quarters will be essential as the team looks to find its footing in the middle of the season.
The upcoming road trip to the Mississippi State Bulldogs gives Oklahoma an immediate opportunity to respond. The Bulldogs have built momentum under former Sooners offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby, making the matchup another demanding test for Brent Venables and his team. If Oklahoma takes Robinson's message to heart and handles the fundamentals, the Sooners could put together the kind of complete performance that has eluded them so far this season.
