That's not the Michigan team the Oklahoma Sooners will face in Week 2.
Michigan survived, with some help from the replay officials, Western Michigan with a 13-12 win in Week 1. Bryce Underwood's second Hail Mary attempt was caught in the front of the end zone to give the Wolverines a one-point win.
Survive and advance is the name of the game.
Sure, Michigan didn't look great against the Broncos. They totaled just 276 yards, including just 106 on the ground against Western Michigan. The Wolverines were just 3 of 10 on third downs and had nine penalties for 80 yards in the win.
Not exactly the kind of performance you want to have before welcoming a top-10 team to your building.
But Michigan is better than that. Whether they took Western Michigan lightly
or were overlooking them with OU coming to town next week, you know they'll be better for the Sooners and more prepared for what Brent Venables' crew wants to throw at them.
The good news for Oklahoma. They've been good on the road over the last couple of seasons. After falling short in road losses to Kansas and Oklahoma State in back-to-back weeks in 2023, the Sooners have performed better the last two seasons.
Even in the dreadful 2024 campaign, when Oklahoma struggled to do anything offensively, they beat Auburn on the road, led Ole Miss and LSU at halftime, and had Missouri beaten before letting it slip away in the final minutes. In 2025, the Sooners went on the road to beat South Carolina, Tennessee, and Alabama, three of the toughest places to play in the SEC.
Brent Venables has long preached an identity of playing to their own standard. Oklahoma isn't concerned with anything other than its own expectations.
You can bet they're not going to let Michigan's performance change the way they prepare for the Week 2 matchup. Because Brent Venables won't let them.
