Oklahoma women's soccer is on a tear this season. On Thursday night, the Sooners defeated LSU to move to 9-0-2 and 3-0 in SEC play in 2026. The team has already set a record for most goals in a season and, in the win over the Tigers, matched its win total in SEC play from all of last season.
At the point of attack for the Sooners has been a historic season from junior forward Kayla Keefer, who notched her third hat trick of the season, an Oklahoma record. Keefer's three goals tied the program record of 15 set back in 2009, just 11 games into the season. The Sooners still have seven games remaining in the regular season, giving Keefer ample opportunity to set the program record.
Keefer proved capable of scoring in a number of ways in last night's
win, scoring from 30 yards out, converting a penalty kick, and finishing the night on a header off a beautiful cross from Kate McAllister. McAllister had a pair of assists in the win.
"We're really hungry to score goals," head coach Matt Mott said after the win. "It's a great record. We got a lot of games left. We'll look at them at the end, but proud of the team for sure, and we just gotta keep going."
A top-five crowd witnessed the Sooners' first ever win over LSU, with 2,231 fans in attendance for the Thursday night SEC showdown.
The Oklahoma Sooners are back in action on Sunday, Sept. 27, at John Crain Field in Norman against the Alabama Crimson Tide. Alabama is one of three teams that are undefeated in SEC play at 3-0. Overall, the Crimson Tide are 10-1 on the season. Game time is set for 12 p.m. CT and can be seen on SEC Network.
